In fiscal year 2009, more than half of the Americans killed in Mexico were killed in the border cities of Ciudad Juarez and Tijuana.
The U.S. Department of State also recently issued a travel alert for Europe, warning U.S. citizens that information suggests al-Qa’ida and affiliated organizations continue to plan terrorist attacks and may target public transportation systems and tourist spots.
On top of the threat level, one in six Americans is now either unemployed or underemployed, making money even tighter for many families. Airfares are also expected to rise by 20 to 30 percent compared to last year as airlines trim their schedules.
